Industry and Technology Programme: Photon10
August 24-25, Universtiy of Southampton
The Industry Technology Programme (ITP) at Photon10 is designed to provide a bridge to the commercial development of photonics enabled applications. Collaboration between academia and industry is often a key part of new product development and this year’s ITP will focus on this interface.
Technology Strategy Board Photonics Project Showcase
In the past 5 years the Technology Strategy Board have helped to fund collaborative R&D projects involving Photonics worth over £130million. The first day of the ITP, chaired by the Photonics and Plastic Electronics KTN, will showcase some of these projects helping to disseminating the knowledge that has been developed and share experiences of being involved in TSB competitions. Projects in 3 key area of advanced lighting, imaging for health and security and next generation light sources will be featured from a range of different R&D competitions. This is an ideal opportunity to learn more about the output from collaborative R&D projects and the impact they are having on the partners and the market, now and in the future.
Collaborative Funding & Support
The second day of the ITP looks to the future, highlighting potential new collaborative projects and mechanisms of funding new product development and commercialisation often through collaboration. Technology Strategy Board and European collaborative funding mechanisms will be covered, including insights into EU Framework ICT call 6 due in the summer of 2010. EPSRC will also discuss their approach to joint industrial funding and there will be insights into full and mini Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and an update on regionally administered grants for R&D.
The ITP will close by opening the floor to delegates to pitch their concepts for future collaborative projects to attract additional partners and obtain feedback to refine their concepts.
The full agenda for the Industry Technology Programme at Photon10 is now online
The Industry and Technology Programme forms part of the Photon10 conference being held at the University of Southampton. Photon10 includes a full academic programme and an exhibition. Delegates may register just for the ITP at a nominal cost which will includes access to the exhibition and ITP session or for the full conference which will also give access to the academic sessions.
Photon10 exhibition is open 10:00-17:00 on Tuesday and 10:00-16:00 on Wednesday for ITP delegates. A list of Photon10 exhibitors and location is available from the Scottish Optoelectronics Associations.
We are grateful to SEEDA and the Electroincs Sensors and Photonics KTN, the Institute of Physics and the Technology Strategy Board for supporting this event.

Photonic Integration from Microelectronics to Nanophotonics
Postponed, Centre for NanoScience and Quantum Information, University of Bristol
Many applications require embedded systems and/or components that are increasingly a combination of microelectronics, photonics and nanotechnology. Application Engineers increasingly need to combine the best of all of these related technologies to deliver sustainable and differentiable performance. Simultaneously it is become increasingly difficult to separate microelectronics, photonics and nanotechnology with developments in one area becoming co-dependent on developments in another.
This event will bring together a number of presentations addressing developments at the edge of the merger of photonics, microelectronics and nanotechnology, exploring ways in which developments in one area influence another and common issues such as integration.
This event is kindly being hosted by the new Centre for NanoScience and Quantum Information at the University of Bristol with support from SEPNET and the Photonics and Plastic Electronics KTN.
The program for this event is currently under construction and we if you would like to present at the event please contact usDirections to the NSQI building on Tyndall avenue - building 36 on campus map
This event has been postponed due to the density of events in June. We will endeavour to run this meeting in the year after September 2010. If you are interested in speaking at this event at a future date please let us know.
